This basilica is the most venerated sanctuaries in Reims. The bishop of Reims, Saint Rémi, was buried there in 533, when the place was already a chapel built to honour Saint-Christophe. The current building constructed from 1007 was modified many times and rebuilt after 1919. Few parts of the Roman structure remain, and even fewer parts of the Carolingian construction. The interior which is 122m long and only 26m wide seems endless - accentuated by the sobriety of the architecture.
