Rocroi : Michelin's recommendations

A bird’s eye view of this 16C town would reveal it sitting within a ten-pointed star. Seen from the ground, Rocroi is centred on a square surrounded by fortifications. The site of a battle against the Spanish in 1643, it was fortified by Vauban in 1675. Renamed Roc Libre during the Revolution, it resisted attack for a month in 1815. From Porte de France, a tourist route heads round the fortifications, giving visitors an idea of the ramparts’ complexity. Don’t miss the Battle of Rocroi Museum.
