The Ballon d'Alsace stands at the southern extremity of the Vosges mountains. Here you will encounter beautiful fir and spruce forests, lovely undergrowth, cool ravines, and, higher up, wide pastures scattered with alpine flowers. From the mountain summit, also called the Ballon d'Alsace (1 250m), there are superb panoramic views. In winter the slopes are taken over by ski enthusiasts at St-Maurice-sur-Moselle.
