Built on a rocky spur, this fortress (35 000m² and 7 floors) is one of the first examples of bastioned architecture in France. Due to its strategic location between France and the German Empire, it was continually strengthened over 500 years. Today, the Historium tour takes visitors through a maze of corridors and rooms which evoke life in the castle via reconstructions and models. The castle museum displays the results of excavations carried out here, as well as documents on Sedan’s history.
