An ancient city extends over 20ha on both sides of the border separating the départments of Sarre and Moselle. The city is thought to have been occupied from the Neolithic Age on, with the population growing to substantial numbers in the Celtic period, as suggested by the tomb of the "Princess of Reinheim" (c 400 BC), which held gold jewellery and a wine service. The Gallo-Roman villa in Reinheim was equipped with all manner of comforts: wall paintings, a private bath and underfloor heating. The public thermal baths were located in Bliesbruck.
