A marvellous Romanesque-style building whose originality owes much to its oriental influence: inside, the nave is crowned by a series of cupolas. The cathedral’s main features are its steep site, which appears to defy the laws of balance, its multicoloured lava facades, the Porche du For and the Porche Saint-Jean, its Romanesque frescoes (Holy Women at the Tomb, the Martyrdom of St Catherine and, above all, St Michael the Archangel), and the multi-coloured wooden pietà of Burgundian provenance.
