The collections of this conservatory of the art of the cloth are designed around two great opposing poles- the West and East. Some magnificent Lyon silks and the production of one of its illustrious inventors Philippe de Lassalle illustrate French cloth. Also notice the Meuble Gaudin a tapestry created for the room of Josephine at Fontainebleau,. The return to antiquity from the start of the 19C, Indian shawls (see the sumptuous Nou Rouza decorated in the «Persian» style) contemporary tapestries by Nathalie du Pasquier and Alechinsky complete this panorama. The section reserved to the Far East has some refined pieces; embroidered and painted panels and kimonos from Japan, Imperial Chinese robes. The museum also has a large collection of liturgical ornaments. European produce from the 12C to the 18C is quite extraordinary (Palermo and Venetian cloth, Hispano-Moorish cloth and Spanish silk velvets). Among the ordinary costumes you must see the doublet of Charles de Blois (14C). Finally there are Coptic tapestries, Egyptian embroideries, Persian and Turkish carpets to complete these remarkable collections.
