The name Gadagne comes from powerful Florentine bankers, the Guadagni, who, from 1535 to 1581, occupied what is nowadays the largest group of Renaissance buildings in Vieux-Lyon. Following ten years of restoration, this complex (Musée d’Histoire de Lyon and the Musée des Marionnettes du Monde), which opened in 2009, provides an opportunity to discover the splendours of this architectural jewel. Restoration work also uncovered a Roman hypocaust, a late-2C underfloor heating system.
