In the chancel that has been converted into a garden statues by Bourdelle, Duret and Rodin will greet you. The renovated museum has a wonderful panorama of the world of art which make it one of the best Fine Art museums in France. Collections of international paintings (El Greco, Zurbaran, Tintoretto, Veronese, Rubens, Metsys), from Lyon (Janmot; The Mystery of the Soul a collection of 18 Mystery tablets) French (Géricault, Delacroix, the Impressionists) and a walk through 20th century painting (Atlan, Masson, Foujita, Ernst, Dubuffet).. Sculpture stretches from the Romanesque and Gothic periods to the Renaissance right up to the start of the 20C. Busts by Coysevox, works by Daumier, marbles by Bourdeille, Maillol and Rodin. The Antiquities department has an Egyptian section (splendid sarcophaguses), a section devoted to the Near and Middle-East (Head of an Assyrian priest), and the section devoted to Greek and Roman civilisation (an amazing Koré). There is also a section devoted to objets d'art, with very varied collections across the ages and the continents, medieval ivories, Gothic Limousin enamels, religious goldsmith's work, Islamic ceramics, Renaissance horse armour, Italian majolica, painted enamels such as the retable of 27 panels attributed to Jean I Limousin, Art Nouveau furniture by Guimard, Chinese ceramics... in short an outstanding museum.
