It is around Place Bellecour, on this peninsula between the Saône and Rhône rivers, that Lyon's main districts are located, and where the city’s main commercial activities have been established for many centuries. The peninsula is crossed by two main pedestrianised streets: rue de la République and rue Victor Hugo. To the south, a large urban project is under construction, featuring apartment blocks, corporate offices, leisure facilities, shops, cultural venues, gardens etc.
