With its fine collection of mosaics, this museum, located on one side of the Rhône across from modern Vienne on the other, has been designed to showcase the Gallo-Roman town of St Romain en Gal. Highlights include the famous Mosaic of the Ocean Gods, which has become the emblem of the site, and the mosaic of the Punishment of Lycurgus. It also features painted ornamentation on the walls, such as the superb paintings of wading birds and wrestlers, which reveal the finesse of interior decoration.
