After admiring the unspoilt setting of the ruined Château de la Tourette, which once marked the gateway to the States of Languedoc, leave Vernoux and head for Boffres. Built on an outcrop, this village dominates a rural landscape of chestnut groves. The D 21 continues on past the Château de Pierre-Gourde, the ruins of which are wonderfully located. On the way down, two bends in the road offer impressive scenic views of the Eyrieux Valley.
