The chalets on boulevard des États Unis, built in 1862 to welcome Napoleon III, are a blend of “Swiss” and “Colonial” styles. There followed a creative outpouring in which architects competed to create the most imaginative designs: on boulevard de la Russie (in particular the Neoclassical villa at nº 21 and the Art Deco house at nº 29; on rue de Belgique (the Venetian villa at nº 7 and the Castel Flamand at nº 2; and at n° 8 on rue Prunelle, a surprisingly authentic English cottage.
