This abandoned fortress occupies the top of a hillock covered in basalt. The lower courtyard contains the Renaissance pavilion and the castle (on the north side). The chapels are beside the keep, with its fine panoramic view of Murol, the Couze valley, Chambon lake, the Dore mountains and, in the distance, the Livradois. A ramp leads up to an elegant gate, decorated with the Mural and Gaspard d’Estaing coats of arms. Note the gallery over the Salle des Chevaliers in the inner courtyard.
