To the right of the Auberge de la Cascade, a path follows the bed of the former river up to the foot of the dam. It's an impressive spot: the rock faces, which have been vigorously carved into, come close enough together to form a dark and narrow gorge. The dam was built in 1866 to provide Saint Étienne with water. A stairway permits access to the crest. The volume of water collects at the foot of fir-covered slopes. Fifty metres to the left, there are stairs leading up to a viewpoint looking over Rochetaillée.
