Leaving Bourg-d'Oisans, the small mountain roads cutting fearlessly into the rocky sides of the basin provide the most beautiful routes you will come across in the Alps. The Route de l'Alpe-d’Huez serves as an excellent introduction to the mountain landscape (Vallée de la Romanche and Vallée du Vénéon). Heading for Valbonnais, you encounter the Gorges de la Lignarre, which furrow deeply into the schist, before you either head into the Vallée de la Malsanne or climb up to the Refuge du Taillefer and Lac Fourchu (altitude 2 060m).
