The island of Lavezzi and a hundred or so islets and reefs form an archipelago around 4km from the Pointe de Sperono, southeast of Bonifacio. The French part of the archipelago is now a natural reserve with restricted access to protect flora and fauna. This mini-paradise of creeks and crystal-clear water has an almost lunar appearance, and is an oasis for marine birds (European shag, herring gull, Cory’s shearwater) as well as vegetation often similar to that found in the Southern Hemisphere.
