In Breton, fauo means “beech”, but now only the name suggests the erstwhile and ubiquitous presence of this tree. While today the countryside is deforested, the town remains at the heart of a picturesque region rich in architectural heritage. The 16C market building at the heart of the town is remarkable for its beams and slate roof. A little out of town are the chapels of St Fiacre (fine 1480 roodscreen) and St Barbe, sited in a rocky crevice.
