Opened in 1799, the city’s natural history museum was moved to the former mint (Hôtel de la Monnaie) in 1875. Its sizeable collections cover the fields of zoology, local fauna, osteology, palaeontology, prehistory, earth sciences, mineralogy, ethnography and conchology. One of the most impressive exhibits is the skeleton of a whale in the zoology gallery. The museum’s vivarium displays a number of species of snakes.
