This town on the banks of the River Aven was a haunt of Paul Gauguin who, along with artists like Émile Bernard et Maurice Denis, was drawn by the amazing light here. So was born the Pont Aven school (1886-1894), which made the place globally famous. Works painted here grace all of the world’s great galleries. Visit the museum dedicated to this school of artists and follow in Gauguin’s footsteps along the Bois d’Amour trail or in the Trémalo chapel, housing a wooden Christ said to have inspired him.
