Arbois, where Louis Pasteur grew up, occupies a wonderful site at the entrance to a magnificent steephead valley. Just as Saint-Just church bell tower stands proudly above the vineyards, the town flies the flag for Jura wines. There are numerous winegrower’s houses, recognisable by their ground-level trap doors for barrel access, and wine cellars that are very popular with enthusiasts.
