Arc-et-Senans : Michelin's recommendations
Now a Unesco World Heritage Site, the royal saltworks were imagined by the architect Claude-Nicolas Ledoux who built them from 1774 to 1779. Their semicircular arrangement houses the workshops and housing for the workers. Pollution of wells and the arrival of new techniques closed the saltworks in 1895.
