The Roman road of Sens-Autun has disappeared ( (Bazoches was an active commercial centre during the Gallo-Roman period), the pilgrims rarely pass on the road that links Vézelay to St-Jacques-de-Compostelle, but the castle where Vauban once lived is still here, standing more proudly than ever, with its high towers above the village and the Morvan countryside.
