Bellegarde-sur-Valserine Travel guide
Bellegarde-sur-Valserine : Michelin's recommendations
Bellegarde is a small industrial town located at the confluence of the Rhône and Valserine rivers. In 1883 it was one of the very first places to be supplied with electricity, thanks to the building of a dam on the river. The village is the ideal base from which to explore the beauty of the surrounding countryside.

Banks of the Valserine
D991 F - 01200 Bellegarde-sur-Valserine
Two hours are needed to complete this beautiful walk which takes you along the Valserine. Access used to be difficult (due to the steep-bank) but it has been rehabilitated to offer hikers a pleasant walk.

The Valserine Leak
D991 F - 01200 Bellegarde-sur-Valserine
In this almost lunar landscape one can admire the work the sea has made on the rocks. It has formed deep cracks in the rock and «Oulles» (big potholes). The river delicately threads its way along the surprisingly sculptured route.
