The life of Dominique Vivant-Denon, artistic adviser to Napoleon I was almost a novel; wrote Philippe Sollers! The museum set up in an annex (18 C) to the old Ursuline Convent, had an important collection of 17 to 19 C paintings, medieval pottery, objects of veneration from the 12 C, rich archaeological collections and an ethnographic section dealing with the inland watercraft on the Saone.
