This château built by Voltaire still houses much of his memorabilia, including a portrait by Quentin de La Tour of the philosopher at the age of 40. A remarkable tomb was built inside the edifice, and Voltaire's heart kept inside until it was given to Napoleon I and placed in France's Bibliothèque Nationale! In 1999, the château was bought by the French State. Once you have been inside, you can enjoy a stroll in the grounds, where you will see the gigantic conical yew tree in the former vegetable plot.
