The summer resort of Malbuison owes much of its renown and success to its magnificent Lac de Saint-Point, the fourth largest natural lake in France. According to legend, hidden beneath its tranquil waters is an entire town, swallowed up one evening following a violent storm for having refused to give alms to a woman and her child. Cheese-lovers will be keen to visit the Fort Lucotte (3km to the east), at an altitude of 1 100m, where cellars are used to mature the famous Comté mountain cheese.
