The town of Ornans in the department of Doubs is famous for the paintings by the French artist Gustave Courbet (1819-1877.) The completely renovated and enlarged Courbet Museum, located on the banks of the River Loue has a permanent exhibition of eighty works of this leading realist painter, who was greatly inspired by the region’s landscapes.
