Place de la Halle is one of France's most characteristic squares. Its name comes from the covered market that stood in the centre of the village until 1839. The houses lining the square relate the history of the village. The hostelry (Ostellerie) has a 13C, half-timbered façade while its other façade, facing south, dates from the Renaissance. The half-timbered Maison Cazin with its overhanging upper storeys is one of the finest buildings in Pérouges.
