The Corniche is a wonderfully picturesque road that clings to the hillside on the left slope of the Vallée du Doubs. Over the course of a 3km circuit, you can peer into the depths of the gorges from some hundred metres up, with the best viewpoints marked by guardrails. The steeper slopes are wooded or rocky; the gentler inclines are carpeted with prairies. The sites have a character of serene, rather than wild splendour. On the other side of Doubs lie Switzerland's Franches-Montagnes.
