Once you have gone over the Faucille Pass, you cross the wood of fir trees; then, after the hotel La Mainaz, the N 5 loops into a large hairpin bend above the pastures and hotels of Le Pailly. You will be rewarded with splendid panoramic views over Lake Geneva and the jagged peaks of the Alps. Lower down, in another tight hairpin bend, you will see the Fontaine Napoléon (1805) standing by the roadside. Just a little further along, at the foot of the slopes, lies the landscape of Gex, where the meadows and woods of the Jura roll into a vast garden with a patchwork of fields.
