The largest of the Morvan’s lakes runs for nearly 7.5km in a pleasant setting among wooded hills. A road crosses the top of the dam, from where the view takes in the full extent of this body of water and the summits of the Haut Morvan in the distance. The contemporary artist Balthus lived at nearby Château de Chassy between 1954 and 1961. For a good lake view, head for Ouroux-en-Morvan on the D 301 (towards Montsauche).
