From the terraces there is a spectacular and unique view: lanterns, chimneys, staircases and dormer windows mingle, hewn by the sculptor’s chisel. The royal imagery is extensive: François I’s monogram, crowned salamanders, flaming candelabras, fleurs de lys… Here the royal court was at leisure, witnessing the departure and return of hunts, military reviews, tournaments and feasts. Above the terraces, the staircase continues in a single spiral culminating in a magnificent 32m-high lantern.
