Arnac-Pompadour
: Michelin's recommendations
This little town owes it place in history to Louis XIV: in 1745, his mistress Mme Le Normant d’Étiolles was granted the marquessate of Pompadour. The establishment by Louis XV in 1761 of a stud farm which in the 19C became the birthplace of the Anglo-Arab breed, has earned Arnac-Pompadour the nickname “Horse City”. Racing fans can visit the National Stables, the Jumenterie de la Rivière (Mares’ Stables) and enjoy a host of equestrian events held over the summer.
