In this region which has been long disrupted by war, it is not surprising that many have dreamed of fortifying the cathedral. But it is above all one of the premier domed churches in Aquitaine - well worth seeing (two domes, 18 and 32 metres in height). Its North door with its richly decorated tympanum, illustrates the Ascension and is an example of the Languedoc school. The Renaissance cloister has similarly maintained its attractive sculptures.
