The cradle of Chateauroux; though Déols today is only a suburb, it is still much older than its neighbour. It was a actually a Gallo-Roman city which in the 4th century became one of the main Christian centres in Berry. From its prestigious past it has preserved the remarkable clock tower on the old abbey and some medieval remains.

Clock Gate

The gate is flanked by two round, machicolated towers and is topped with a 600kg bell which has chimed the hours for the people of Déols since 1523.

Pont-Perrin Gate

No longer a defence structure although once part of the town fortifications. It used to give onto the River Indre and Perrin Bridge and was replaced by the present structure in 1750.
