Figeac
: Michelin's recommendations
Nestled on the right bank of the Célé, Figeac developed on the border of the Auvergne and Haut-Quercy regions. As a regional crossroads, it has a rich history (including the rare privilege of minting royal coins), as is borne out by the architecture of its tall sandstone buildings, merchant houses and town houses, dating mostly from the 12C-15C. It also owes its fame to the illustrious scholar Champollion, who was born here in 1790, an event commemorated by the museum named after him.
