Sarlat-la-Canéda Travel guide
Sarlat-la-Canéda
: Michelin's recommendations
Sarlat developed around a Benedictine abbey founded in the late 8C in the heart of the Périgord Noir. It became a prosperous market town in the 13C and 14C, but the Hundred Years’ War left it battered and depleted. The people of Sarlat subsequently rebuilt their town and in the second half of the 15C erected most of the magnificent town houses which can still be admired today. Sarlat’s market stalls and restaurants serving truffles and foie gras add to its undoubted appeal.
