The château encapsulates 800 years of fortress architecture in the Périgord. Acquired by the local government in 1978, it has been restored and transformed into an art centre. Every summer, exhibitions give visitors a reason to return, despite the legend of Charles de Gontaut who was executed here in 1602 and is reputed to walk the ramparts with his head held in his hands… Don’t miss the 16C chapel, with two tombs surmounted by recumbent figures showing 15C Italian influence.
