Lac du Bourget
Lac du Bourget
: Michelin's recommendations
Flanked by the steep slopes of Mont du Chat and Mont de la Chambotte, France's largest natural lake is famous for the changing hues of its waters, which range from dark blue to bright turquoise. Subject to strong gusts of wind and lined by steep banks, it is not necessarily the easiest lake to sail on. However, a tour of its shores will provide the chance to admire not only the lake, but also the superb abbey of Hautecombe and the old border town of Chanaz, as well as taking you up the Col de Sapenay, which commands a great view from the Restaurant La Chambotte.
