Avoriaz : Michelin's recommendations

Situated at an altitude of 1,800 m in the Portes du Soleil (gates of the sun) area, Avoriaz was the brainchild of Jean Vuarnet, who decided to build a ski resort here in 1966. Cars are forbidden, with sleds the main means of transport in this modern complex. Avoriaz is a favourite destination for numerous artists, and each year the Festival du film de demain (The films of tomorrow festival) is held here, and much enjoyed by the inhabitants.
