It is impossible to take a walk in the old town of Chambéry without going past the 15C-16C Cathédrale métropolitaine St-François-de-Sales and rue Croix-d'Or, two steps away. Lined with old mansions, this was the most aristocratic part of the town. The rue Basse-du-Château is also very pleasant with its picturesque footbridge-gallery and old workshops. It will take you straight to the 14C-15C château, which is worth visiting, if only for the Early Gothic Ste-Chapelle.
