The lake is 72km long, 310m deep and has an area of 58 000ha. A distinction is generally made between the Petit lac, the small area between Geneva and Yvoire and the Grand lac, the wider sector (partly in the region of Vevey), also called the Haut lac, on the far eastern side. The boats of the Compagnie Générale de Navigation link the French and Swiss banks of the lake. From Evian, visitors can go on a full trip around the lake, cross to Lausanne-Ouchy or simply take a night cruise.
