Known as “la Sarrasine” (the Saracen), Gourdon is perched on a rock on the edge of the steep Caussols plateau, which rises 500m above the River Loup. This remote, picturesque village is very attractive, with its 12C château built on the foundations of a Saracen fortress, its boutiques, glass-making, silk and perfumery workshops, and old restored houses – such as the Maison du Chevalier (the oldest in the village).
