This pleasant square with a colonnade and fountain leads to the market and, further on, to rue Longue (part of the old Roman road Via Julia Augusta). The surrounding area was Menton’s high-society district during the Belle Epoque; fine examples of this are rue de la République (former Hôtel d’Orient), avenue Riviera (Winter Palace and Riviera Palace) and the covered market (quai de Monléon).
