Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume : Michelin's recommendations
The ideal way to get acquainted with this old "new town", with its grid layout, shady little squares and fountains, is on foot. South of the church a covered walkway joins rue Colbert, which is flanked by 14C arcades and marks the location of the old ghetto; on the other side are the house of Lucien Bonaparte and the former general hospital. Backtracking, you will arrive at a small square dominated by the Clock Tower and its campanile. On the right as you go towards rue du Général de Gaulle, stands a pretty 16C house (corbelled turret).
