Less fashionable than its neighbour St Tropez, Sainte Maxime is a pleasant family seaside resort. The old town with colourful façades and cobbled alleyways is a refuge from the sun beating down on the nearby beaches. The vibrant pedestrian centre is full of shady squares, both big and small, refreshing fountains and morning markets laden with tasty-looking produce. The Promenade Simon Lorière affords lovely views over St Tropez. Sainte Maxime has also preserved a rich architectural heritage, boasting 38 period villas built between 1920 and 1940.
