Saorge
: Michelin's recommendations
Built on a concave hillside in common with other towns of the upper Roya Valley, Saorge’s medieval architecture remains largely intact. The strategic position of this settlement, originally Ligurian and subsequently Roman, made it an impenetrable fortress in the Middle Ages. The oldest part is built on three levels, and its stepped streets are a pleasure to explore. From the terrace of the Franciscan convent, the view takes in Saorge, the River Roya and its gorge.
