Cirques, valleys, moraines and glacial lakes surround Mt Bégo (2,872m) in a spectacular location. Over 30,000 rock carvings produced between 2800 and 1300 BC have been identified here. They bear witness to the beliefs of the Ligurian tribes who are thought to have deified Mt Bégo. The most portrayed theme is bull worship. Swing ploughs, weapons and some human figures are also depicted. Access is via the Roya valley – make sure you are properly equipped for this mountain environment.
