Although too secluded to be reached by the main road, the Chartreuse mountain range can be accessed by the Col de Vence and scenic roads from Grenoble in the direction of St-Pierre-de-Chartreuse, or from Chambéry via the Col du Granier. After gorges and deep forests, when you arrive high up you will be greeted by a landscape of curious yet elegant summits carved out of the limestone and green pastures. For centuries this serene beauty has been the backdrop to the lives of the monks living in the Couvent de la Grande Chartreuse.
